An extraordinary extension to
a house in Tynemouth conservation area.
The clients - a growing family
- needed space, light and a healthy sustainable place to be
together. The design evolved around the heart of the scheme – a
dynamic integrated water feature inset into the living space. It
also involved the addition of two bedrooms, including a room in the
roof. The living space is covered with a radial stepped glass and
sedum roof. This channels the rainwater, and the eye, towards the
gap between the edge and the water feature. Innovative use of
external insulation over super-insulating blocks gives
Passivhaus-level insulation.
The Project won an Excellence
LABC Award 2011
